A Message From Mitch
We are all connected by common goals.
I am a conservative Christian - who supports the Second Amendment, small government, and fiscal responsibility. I know and live by the conservative values that are important to Livingston County. Continued conservative leadership is needed in our community -- precisely why I am running for County Commissioner.
The County Commission plays an important role in overseeing the business of the county. The Commission is primarily responsible for ensuring taxpayer resources are used in smart, efficient ways. I know that this responsibility can only be fulfilled by making data-driven, common-sense decisions about spending, personnel, and Livingston County priorities for the months and years ahead.
I am an intellectual property and commercial litigation attorney at Butzel Long, one of Michigan’s premier law firms, located in Detroit. I am also a high school football coach at Howell High School. I have lived in Livingston County since 2015, and have been actively involved in the community, both as a football coach and as a member of the Livingston County Republican Party from day one. I came to Livingston County from Ingham County, where I was an active Executive Committee member of the Republican Party and a precinct delegate. I am the secretary of the Livingston County Republican Party and the Michigan Republican Party 8th District Committee.
I attended WMU-Cooley (J.D., 2017) after graduating from Western Michigan University with Bachelors’ degrees in Mechanical Engineering and German (2012) and a Master’s in Mechanical Engineering (2013). I was a Rhodes Scholar finalist (2012); interned for Congressman Fred Upton, and was a four-year starter on the Division 1 football team at WMU.
Along with coaching high school football, I am a professor of engineering management and law at Trine University and a member of the Western Michigan University Cooley Law School Board of Directors. In addition, I am the Association for Child Development (ACD) President- a non-profit organization facilitating ~$30M/annum through the USDA CACF Program providing healthy meals to children across the Midwest. I have helped this organization achieve financial stability, organizational structure, and leads the strategic expansion of ACD programs to more children and to provide education to more families.
Mitch's Goals for the Commission
WORK TO FURTHER DEVELOP AND IMPLEMENT A PLAN FOR #ONELIVINGSTON
In today's tough economic time for families and businesses, it is important the Board of Commissioners continue to work to control spending within the county.
Oversight of the county departments, including hiring in key positions and county board appointments, is key. This can be done by investigation and diving into the issues - simple, blind agreement is not enough.
Effective and Efficienct
Evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of the programs so taxpayer money is only spent appropriately.
Connect with residents and other community leaders. The Board is elected to serve the residents and part of that includes searching for continuous feedback and taking steps to implement that feedback in voting decisions.
Anticipate the impact of decisions we make today on the future by having an eye for unintended consequences, balancing population with programs and services, and eliminating spending money outside of the county.
I can't win this race without your help! Friend-to-Friend cards, word-of-mouth, and donating are all ways of helping us achieve our goals together. Here are some of the key endorsements I have received from some Livingston County Leaders:
